Born Free

This video of the lioness reminds me of something. In much of the world, lions have been saved from the injustice of the circus. But most mammals live longer in captivity. They are typically fed and protected from predators. They are what you might call “safe”. They are not free. They have very limited space to pace and roam. They are controlled. They may even be chained to one place. But they live longer. But is the sacrifice of freedom desirable? Is it worth it?

Instead of being lions of the circus, may we become lions of the savanna.

Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart

Live free and beauty surrounds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star

Stay free, where no walls divide you
You're free as the roaring tide
So there's no need to hide

Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
'cause you're born free

(Stay free, where no walls divide you)
You're free as the roaring tide
So there's no need to hide

Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
'cause you're born free
