Changing Old Emotional Patterns
Our minds are always trying to make sense of the world around us. As we grow, we learn ways of thinking, feeling, and responding that help us handle the people and situations in our lives. These become our internal strategies for dealing with things.
Sometimes those strategies work very well. Other times, something we learned years ago can continue guiding us long after we have grown, and our circumstances have changed. We may still feel anxious when someone is upset with us, become angry when we feel powerless, or feel guilty whenever we put our own needs first.
This is where the deeper work of NeuroCognitive Reprogramming™ comes in. We can look at the program underneath the reaction, and begin to understand what the mind has learned. What is the strategy? What belief is connected to it? What is the mind trying to accomplish with this response?
My trainer describes part of this process as deprogramming. It is a guided process of identifying limiting or harmful patterns, and intentionally replacing them with new, healthy ones. Rather than simply telling yourself to think differently, we work with the internal strategy that has been creating the response.
I have been fortunate to learn this work directly from my trainer, who created NeuroCognitive Reprogramming™ and has mentored me for more than 11 years. I have learned so much from her over the years, and her incredible understanding of the mind and language continues to influence the way I work with people.
This is one of the reasons I am so passionate about this work. I love seeing people begin to understand that a reaction they have struggled with for years may have a pattern behind it. When we can find that pattern, understand what the mind learned, and create something healthier in its place, we open up new possibilities for how we think, feel, and live.
